Every year, thousands of men (in 2005, over 20,000!) leave their families and travel to Uman, a military city located in the Ukraine, to spend Rosh Hashana with "the Rebbe" – Rebbe Nachman of Breslov.

About Reb Nosson

The relationship Reb Nosson Sternhartz of Breslov had with his Rebbe, Rebbe Nachman, has been compared to the relationship between Moshe Rabbeinu and his chief disciple, Yehoshua. Moshe Rabbeinu is compared to the sun, while Yehoshua is compared to the moon. Just as the moon reflects the light of the sun, so too, Yehoshua reflected the great light of his teacher, Moshe. In the same fashion, Reb Nosson reflected the light of the Rebbe – Rebbe Nachman of Breslov.
